Love for God
Often times through our day to day life we can begin to do things half heartedly. I myself have noticed several times when doing evangelism where I was there only physically. I was talking to people, I was passing things out or visiting folks but I was clearly thinking of other things and not putting my all into outreach.
I recently read a book by Raymond Lull in part of his poem "The book of the lover and the beloved" he says
"O Beloved, who in one Name, Jesus Christ, art called both God
and Man, by that Name my will seeks to adore Thee as God and Man.
And if Thou, Beloved, hast so greatly honoured Thy Lover, through
none of his merits, why honourest Thou not so many ignorant men, who
knowingly have been less guilty of dishonouring Thy Name, Jesus Christ,
than has this Thy Lover?"
The first commandment says that we are to love God with all our hearts minds and souls. Friends, where is our love today?
We live in an era surrounded by distractions. Constantly there are things that can distract us from the things that really matter. It is also quite easy to
become discouraged when we are not seeing things happen the way we wish them to.
We can try and wait for the right moment to come. I will wait until _______, then I will go do outreach. However, often times when that time comes we do not do anything, or when it does we go into waiting for something else.
When I first came to Lebanon I found myself often alone. I often told myself that I would wait until I could find others to go and do outreach with me. As a result I did not get much done. After a long period of disappointment I started doing things on my own. I started doing outreach on my own. It is very difficult to go and pass out tracts or go do evangelism by yourself. It is not an easy task. However, if you have no one else to go with you, it is something that has to done.
Another line from that poem states "The Lover forgot all that was beneath the high heavens that his
understanding might soar the higher towards a knowledge of the
Beloved, whom his will desired to comprehend, to contemplate, praise
In the same way we must make it our duty to forget the worldly things here on earth and focus on things above. We likewise should make it a priority to "comprehend, contemplate praise and preach".
"But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
" love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. 6 These words, which I command you this day, shall be on your heart" Deuteronomy 6:5
