Hurricane Katrina may be over, but it is certainly not forgotten. It is years after the storm and the need is greater than ever. Extreme poverty has devastated the residents of Hancock County who have been since forgotten. Large families are sharing one-bedroom trailers and many makeshift shacks meant to be temporary have, out of necessity, become permanent homes. Over the past three years, Next Step teams have assisted Hancock Country residents by rebuilding homes that were devastated during the hurricane. We have reached the families that were overlooked during the cleanup and helped to not only rebuild homes, but also lives. Through compassion and understanding, the students have formed relationships with the residents and come to learn what it means to trust in the Lord during difficult times. Be a part of this life-changing movement by repairing damaged roofs and siding, laying new foundations, hanging drywall and building wheelchair accessible ramps and decks. Spend Friday reflecting on the week and enjoying the sunny beaches of Gulfport, MS. Make a difference in the lives of Hancock Country residents by meeting the serious physical needs of a broken community while spreading God’s love.
