Following a day of orientation in Merritt Island, Florida, you will travel to Orlando International Airport to begin your flight across the Atlantic Ocean to Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi. Malawi is often referred to as “The Warm Heart of Africa”, and you will know why after spending just a brief time with the people. A two-hour truck ride will take you from the airport to the base in Chipoka on the shores of Lake Malawi. You will spend a day at the base before driving six hours to your project site in Mangochi. Your project is the construction of a building for use on this new base to establish a witness among the Yao people. The Yao people are predominately Muslim and our work among the children is opening doors of opportunity for the Gospel. We have already opened the Bible school and now need to construct the dormitories and classroom buildings. Housing will be in tents and bathing and laundry will be done using a bucket. On the weekends you will have the opportunity to give shoes to needy orphans and also to paddle in hand-carved wooden dugout canoes to visit local villages, providing evangelistic opportunities to share with the people on both Lake Malawi and on the shores of the Shire River. While in Malawi, you will be traveling to some of the same places that David Livingstone visited when he explored Malawi. There is also a trip planned to Senga Bay where you will have the opportunity to barter for wood carvings, paintings and drums. |
