Day 1: Arrive in Guatemala City and transfer to your hotel in Antigua. Enjoy a group welcome dinner in the evening. Day 2: Stroll through the streets of Antigua on a morning tour. Visit the widely acclaimed Filadelfia Coffee Estate and see how coffee is grown and processed. Tour the farm by jeep or mule, or opt for a zipline across the jungle. Day 3: Work on an income-generating prject with Vamos Adelante, the only permanent development organization in the region of Esquintla, Guatemala. Day 4: Continue work with Vamos Adelante. Day 5: Continue work with Vamos Adelante in the morning. Visit a local fair trade coffee farm which serves as part of A Common Hope's "Income Generating Plan." Day 6: Spend the day in Chichicastenango, or "Chi Chi," home to one of the largest markets in all of Central Americ. Transfer to Panajache, home to Lake Atitlan and 14 indigenous Mayan-speaking villages dotting the lake's edge. Day 7: Explore Lake Atitlan via a day-long boat trip. Higlights of the tour include visiting fair trade groups in San Juan la Laguna and shopping in San Pedro la Laguna. Day 8: Return to Antigua, where you'll visit local coffee farmer Don Filiberto. Board a chicken bus and head to his village to explore his coffee farm, meet his family, learn how to make tortillas, and purchase his fair trade coffee. Overnight at the hotel and return home in the morning. |
