Day 1: Arrive in the bustling capital city of Nairobi and settle in at Heart Lodge for the night. Day 2: Visit an animal rescue at Sheldrick’s Elephant and Rhino Orphanage and feed giraffes at the Giraffe Center. Visit to Kazuri Beads in the afternoon to learn about fair trade, meet the women creating this unique jewelry, and shop the income-generating retail store. Day 3: Depart for Nakuru and visit the Heart to Heart Women's Cooperative on arrival. Walk through Mwariki Village with the women of the coop and meet the women of Black Sheep later in the day. Check into the Lake Nakuru Lodgeand see how they're giving back through community-based tourism. Day 4: Take an early morning safari to spot the infamous pink flamingos of Nakuru. Spend the morning working on an income-generating projects in a local IDP camp for people displaced by the 2008 election. Spend the afternoon working on arts and crafts with children at Saidia Children’s Home. Day 5: Get up early for a safari and spend the part of your day implementing an income-generation project at Child Discovery Center. Relax with a swim at the lodge before dinner. Day 6: Depart for Eldoret in the morning and spend an afternoon at the Neema House, home to 30 orphans, where you'll work with children. Day 7: visit Tumaini Children’s Center to help implement an income-generating project in the morning and then the Imani Workshops for local women in the afternoon. Day 8: In the morning visit AMPATH and the Riley Mother/Baby Hospital. Travel to Kehrio Valley Lodge for lunch and stunning views! Return to Poa Place in the afternoon. Enjoy dinner at Cool Streams Restaurant – the income generation restaurant for AMPATH. Day 9: Depart in the early morning for the Masai Mara, a world-famous location for safari travel. Check into a camp lodge for the night. Day 10: All day safari – go in search of lions, cheetahs, giraffes, elephants, wildebeest, gazelles, and much more. Day 11: Early morning safari. Visit Masai Village to meet this unique and colorful tribe. Walk through their village, meet the local people, and visit their market. Proceed to Nairobi in the afternoon and check into Heart Lodge. Farewell dinner at Carnivore. Overnight at Heart Lodge. Day 12: Free day to explore Nairobi. Visits to a local market, Alive and Kicking, National Museum, Nairobi National Park, etc can be planned. Transfer to airport in the evening to catch international flight back to the United States. |
