Help a Kenyan Orphanage and Street Kids Center Develop Income-Generating Projects |
| Description: |
June 18 – Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to Heart Lodge for overnight.
June 19 – Visit Sheldrick’s Elephant and Rhino Orphanage in the morning. Continue on to Alive and Kicking Social Enterprise and learn about this group’s initiative to spread messages of HIV/AIDs awareness through soccer. Break for lunch at Amani Ya Juu and watch the women create fair trade items. Spend the afternoon with Kazuri Beads and their impressive organization. Return to Heart Lodge in the evening.
June 20 – Depart for Nakuru in the morning. Check into TVE Guesthouse. Visit Mwariki village in the afternoon. Spend time with several fair trade groups, walk through the village, learn about micro-financing projects, and enjoy dinner with the women of Heart to Heart. Return to TVE Guesthouse in the evening.
June 21 – All day volunteer activities in the IDP Camp. Help with community development projects and meet over 250 families displaced due to ethnic conflict surrounding the 2007 elections. Return to TVE Guesthouse in the evening.
June 22 – Depart for Eldoret in the morning. Check into Poa Place. Visit Imani Workshops in the afternoon and learn about a fair trade initiative focused on helping uplift women living with HIV/AIDs. Return to Poa Place in the evening.
June 23– Spend the day volunteering with Neema Children’s Home and School. Help Joshua and Miriam care for over 30 young orphans and run a school for the local community. The group will focus on implementing an income-generating project for Neema. Return to Poa Place in the evening.
June 24 – Spend today visiting the Riley Mother and Baby Hospital, Sally Test Center, AMPATH, and LACE to see the many connections Indianapolis has to Eldoret. Return to Poa Place in the evening.
June 25 – Depart to Chulaimbo to visit the UMOJA project. Check into hotel. Visit local primary schools involved in UMOJA. Enjoy lunch in the community. Return to hotel in the evening.
June 26 – Join the community in worship service in the morning. Enjoy lunch together. Visit Grandma Sarah’s village in the afternoon. Return to hotel in the evening.
June 27 - Visit child-headed households being supported through UMOJA in the morning. Break for lunch. Visit income-generating projects in the community in the afternoon. Special farewell dinner with the UMOJA project participants. Return to hotel in the evening.
June 28 – Early morning departure for the Masai Mara. All day game drive to spot the Big 5 and picnic lunch. Return to camp in the evening. All meals provided at camp.
June 29 – Early morning game drive. Return for breakfast. Visit to Masai Village. Depart in the afternoon for Nairobi to catch evening flight. |
