Principal duties and responsibilities



 Supports Marketing and Advertising of services.

Customer Service

·         Reporting to the Medical Director on Customer Satisfaction results, compliments and complaints.

Human Resource Management

·         Maintenance of staffing establishments.

·         Approval of department staffing budgets.

Networking and Marketing

·         Networking with other service providers.

Systems Implementation

·         Departmental, IT information system implementation.

·         Quality Improvement systems throughout.

Health and Safety


·        To ensure compliance with legal requirements, regulations, codes of practice and organizational health & safety policies and procedures

Strategy Development

·         Business improvement initiatives

·         Legal and contractual compliance

·         Hospital vision, strategy and plans

·         Service development

·         Participation in organizational projects.

Business Management

·         Revenue enhancement

·         Business, quality and risk management

·         Supplier contract negotiation and management

·         Key Performance Indicator tracking and reporting trends.

·         Monthly reporting and statistics

Financial Management

·         Financial management of Departments


·         Promotion and demonstration of organizational values and standards.

·         Promotion of communication within organization

·         Development of an effective hospital culture

·         Acting as an organizational resource

·         Promotion of multicultural harmony.

·         Leadership training and staff development.



Position Relationships

Work with: Other Physicians, technicians in the department and other department heads when required.


Principal Accountabilities:

Diagnoses diseases by performing necropsies and pathological examination of body tissues. Analyzes case histories.   Prepares tissues for microscopic examination. Diagnoses nature and source of pathological conditions causing illness and death.   Interprets and correlates findings. Prepares diagnostic reports  Manages clinical laboratory services.   Formulates plans and procedures for clinical laboratory services.   Schedules and assigns medical technicians in clinical pathological procedures related to such subjects as hematology, bacteriology, serology, biochemistry, and parasitology.   Evaluates such laboratory functions as chemical analysis of body fluids and production of antigens and sera. Advises on kind and quantity of medical laboratory supplies and equipment.   Coordinates clinical laboratory services with other medical activities.   Instructs interns and residents in pathological and clinical pathological laboratory reports.   Directs preparation of pathological diagnostic records.   Serves as consultant on tissue and clinical pathology.   Achieve annual budgeted targets   Ensuring employee satisfaction and empowerment  Ensure client satisfaction and the needs of the client we support and are delivered to the best possible standards. 


Position Requirements:

Licensed by UAE MOH as Specialist A

Board certified or MD in Pathology as minimum

Experience of 5 years after MD as minimum


General Requirements (Knowledge, skills and Abilities)


Knowledge of:

Standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.   Common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. 


Skills in:

Procedures techniques   Listening and communicating clearly.  Time management.  Preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.  Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. 





Ability to:

Maintain quality control standards.  React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.  Work as a team member with all staff.  Work effectively and patiently in a cross-cultural environment.  Work independently, but seek consultation and /or assistance in a timely manner when necessary.   Show a desire to increase the level of excellence and service delivery within the department.  Provide care to a diverse population.  Communicate clearly.  Work under high stress conditions.  Maintain patient confidentiality. 




Continuing Education:

The Pathologist specialist / Chief Pathologist is required to participate in Continuing Educational programs and complete the yearly CME units as per OH policy or departmental requirement whenever is the higher requirement.
