South Africa: Cape Town Township Experience |
| Description: |
Cape Town Township Experience Ocean View & Masiphumelele unique situation Though government sponsored apartheid is over this country remains deeply scarred. It’s estimated roughly 30% of the population are infected with HIV. unique need To experience the overwhelming love that Jesus has for them and to know the amazing value he has placed on them. trip dates July 22 - August 6, 2008 trip prices (all-inclusive) $3,148 from New York, NY $3,448 from Los Angeles, CA We will be working in conjunction with Floyd McClung as we focus on Masiphumelele and Ocean View, two townships of Cape Town both extremely rich in beauty, culture, and need. We will bring the hope of Jesus to townships that suffer under the weight of hopelessness brought on by 70% unemployment, high levels of child abuse, and poverty. Whether going door to do to visit shut-ins, spending time talking and playing board games with AIDS victims in a hospice, teaching Christian values in local schools, or assisting in the daycare ministry, you will experience firsthand the incredible value of these colorful and generous people. • Ocean View is an urban settlement of over 30,000 colorful multi- ethnic people. • Originally known as simply Site 5, this township was renamed Masiphumelele by its residents, which means “We will succeed.” Over 26,000 people live in Masi. Known as the rainbow nation, South Africa is a country with nine provinces and eleven official languages. This country is as diverse in people groups as it is in terrain. The South African people are some of the most gracious, warm, and generous people in the world. You are unique… BWO believes that uniqueness is hard-wired into every human being. God created each of us to be uniquely ourselves. Why not let God take our unique blend of gifts, talents, skills, personality, background, and life experiences, and fully express who we have been born to be: a child of God, loving all kinds of people from all kinds of places that have all kinds of needs. Here’s a look at a few of the different skills used on a BWO missions trip. Does a few of these sound like you? o Hold a baby o Paint a door o Sweep a floor o Share the love of Jesus o Sing a Song o Hammer a nail o Pick up trash o Kick a soccer ball o Change a diaper o Share the story of Jesus o Wipe a nose o Hold an orphan o Feed a baby o Read a book o Play a game o Paint fingernails Location Information: |
