Egypt Orphanage/France/Switzerland

Description: Surviving remnants of ancient culture, the pyramids and hieroglyphic language mix with the modern to make Egypt a very popular travel destination. After Boot Camp you bus to the Miami International Airport for a flight across the Atlantic Ocean to ParisFrance. A second flight across the Mediterranean Sea takes you to Cairo, Egypt. You continue by bus on an eight-hour journey through the Arabian Desert, an endless ocean of sand, to your final destination, the Lillian Trasher Orphanage. This is one of the world’s largest orphanages and is located in Assiout, along the Nile River. Home to over 650 orphans, it provides an opportunity for each child to develop to his or her full potential. Your project is to paint the boys’ dormitory and pour concrete sidewalks that connect the many buildings on the 12-acre campus. Using puppets, drama, music and testimonies, share the love of Jesus with the children who call the orphanage home. See the overwhelming joy on their faces as you interact and build life-changing relationships with them. Housing will be in dorms with showers available; laundry will be done using buckets. You will see the largest pyramid ever built during your visit to the Great Pyramids and may have a nomadic experience of riding a camel through the desert sand. You will also see the Great Sphinx of Giza, a giant statue with the body of a lion and the head of a man. Although both monuments were built over 4,000 years ago, they still retain a sense of majesty. Choices for souvenirs are abundant: alabaster, inlaid wood, copper and brass items, silver plates and replicas of ancient artifacts are all available. In Cairo, you will see the Cairo Museum, which houses the great artifacts of Egypt and the golden treasures of King Tut. After returning to Paris, you travel through the French countryside and Swiss Alps to Switzerland for Debrief. (Note: Switzerland Debrief)
