Experience two intriguing lands this summer as you serve the Lord. Known for royal history, castles and cathedrals, Wales is vastly different than Iceland—the “land of fire and ice” and 24 hours of summer daylight. After Boot Camp you bus to the Sanford International Airport for a flight along the eastern seaboard of theUnited States, New Brunswick and Newfoundland, Canada, across the Atlantic Ocean to Reykjavik, Iceland, before arriving in Manchester, England. From Manchester you bus one hour through rolling hillsides to Chester, England and on to Northop Hall,Flintshire. Your destination: Save The Family (STF)! STF is a ministry that seeks to provide a safe, loving home for homeless and hurting families. Your project is to paint several buildings and continue clearing 10 acres of woods that are on the grounds. Using puppets, drama, music and testimonies, you will share the love of Jesus to these children and their families. Housing will be indoors; hot showers are available and laundry will be done using a bucket. There may be an opportunity to visitSnowdonia National Park, and wander through some of the local castles, including Ewloe and Caenarvan, whose ruins speak of vanished greatness. Enjoy a visit to the medieval walled city of Chester, where archaeologists are currently excavating an ancient Roman coliseum. Make sure to sample some of England’s famous fish ‘n chips as you shop for English teas, china, soccer memorabilia and other special gifts to take home as memories of your summer. After your time in Wales you return to Iceland for the second half of your summer ministry. Upon arrival in the capital city of Reykjavik, you bus two hours passing lava fields, rugged cliffs, jagged mountains, volcanoes and rushing rivers to Hvolsvollur. Here you assist with preparations for a family camp of 1,500 Icelandic Christians. You will also help in the kitchen and other areas to make this camp possible for those attending. You will have the opportunity to swim in the geothermal springs at the famed Blue Lagoon before returning to Florida for Debrief. (Note: Florida Beach Debrief) |
