From William Carey to Mother Teresa, missionaries through the centuries have seen the enormous physical and spiritual need of India. Meet that need and step out of your comfort zone to serve the Lord in a country bound by poverty, caste restrictions and devotion to Hinduism’s 330 million gods. Following Boot Camp you bus to the Orlando International Airport for a flight to Los Angeles. You continue across the Pacific Ocean and the International Date Line before arriving in Taipei, Taiwan, for refueling. Another flight across the South China Sea and Vietnam, takes you to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. From Kuala Lumpur you cross the Indian Ocean before arriving in Chennai, India. You may have the opportunity to see St. Thomas Mountain, believed to be the site of the apostle Thomas’ martyrdom, before you travel by train six hours north to Vijayawada. From here you load onto the back of the Teen Missions truck for an hour ride to the Teen Missions in India Bible, Missionary & Work (BMW) Training Center in Atkur. Put to good use the work and evangelism training learned at Boot Camp as you share the love of Christ in churches and believers’ homes using music, puppets, testimonies, drama and Gospel recordings (the Word of God on DVDs and cassette tapes in local dialects). You will help meet physical needs by doing various projects at the BMW property. The school has students from all over India and northwest Burma, providing a diverse student body—they speak many languages and have different cultural traditions. Housing will be in dorms; showers and laundry will be done using a bucket. If you like ethnic cuisine and hot spicy food does not bother you, then you should sample the many curries India has to offer. Sharpen your bartering skills for your visit to the local market where silk saris, Punjabi outfits, semi-precious stones, brass goods and inlaid wood items can be purchased for bargain prices. After your project you fly to Delhi and take a bus to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal before returning to Malaysia for Debrief. |
