With visible history dating back to the middle ages and a reputation for innovation and modern luxuries, Sweden will provide you the “summer of a lifetime” as you serve the Lord in this land of diversity. After completing Boot Camp training, you bus to the Miami International Airport for a flight across the Atlantic Ocean to Paris, France. A connecting flight takes you across the Lowland countries of Belgium and the Netherlands, the North Sea and Denmark before arriving in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. A short bus ride will take you to Josuamission, your home for the summer. Josuamission is a Christian conference and training center that aims to “build bridges through reconciliation and freedom in Christ”. This picturesque location is nestled in a beautiful pine forest; if you wake up early, you may see wild deer or moose graze in pastoral green meadows. Your project will be to install drywall in the new dorm building at the center. During your free time, you may hike to the nearby North Sea for a refreshing swim. Housing will be in dorms and hot showers are available. Laundry will be done using your bucket. On a sightseeing trip you will visit Stockholm, a city built on 14 islands and part of the Stockholm Archipelago which consists of 24,000 islands. You will visit the Royal Palace (originally built in the 1300s) and the museum housing the pride of Sweden—the Vasa—a war ship constructed in 1625 and boasting 64 cannons. After an hour into its maiden voyage it sank to the depths of the Baltic Sea and was lost for 300 years. Shop in the Gamla Stan, a historic section of the old city where Swedish-designed clothing, textiles and hand-made and hand-painted glassware are available for purchase. You return to Paris where you will see the Louvre,Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame, before you bus through the French countryside and Swiss Alps to Switzerland for Debrief. (Note: Switzerland Debrief) |
