| Title: |
Guyana Riverboat |
| Description: |
Navigate the “land of many waters” on the first Teen Missions team to Guyana, South America. This breathtaking country, tucked between Venezuela and Suriname, is the only English-speaking South American country, and is famous for being the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel, The Lost World. Following Boot Camp training you bus to the Miami International Airport for a flight across the Great Bahama Bank, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean Sea and the islands of the Lesser Antilles, before arriving in Georgetown, the capital of Guyana. From the airport you travel by bus and ferry for five hours to Corriverton, located at the mouth of theCorantyne River on the Guyana-Suriname border; here you will settle in at the OCM Outreach Ministries base. Founded in 1998, OCM aims to reach Muslims in the Caribbean and Central and South American regions through humanitarian aid, education and leadership training. You will be traveling up and down the Corantyne River in OCM’s riverboat stopping to share the Gospel as you teach Vacation Bible Schools, perform drama and puppet shows and talk one on one with locals who live along the river. In addition to evangelism, you will bless OCM as you paint a Christian school and do small renovation projects at the base. Housing is in tents; laundry and bathing are done using a bucket. Trips are planned to a nearby sugar factory, a rice mill and an open market where you will barter for intriguing souvenirs. After completion of your project, you return to Florida for Debrief.
