Tucked in between the countries of Honduras and Costa Rica,Nicaragua offers scenic terrain, rich culture and friendly people who will make your summer of service memorable. Following Boot Camp training, you bus to the Orlando International Airport for a short flight to Miami. You continue on your next flight over Cuba, theCaribbean Sea and Honduras before arriving in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. A hour-long bus ride past coffee plantations and cattle ranches takes you to Diriamba, located in the Carazo state. You will settle in at Sendas de Paz (Paths of Peace), your home for the summer. Your project will be to continue construction on the New Jerusalem Church building; this building will not only serve as a church, but also as a multi-purpose meeting hall. Housing will be in dorms and hot showers are available; laundry will be done using a bucket. Share the message of salvation with the local people using music, puppets, drama and testimonies. Visit the Mirador de Catarina, a dormant volcano that now has a lake in its crater; from the top of the volcano you can see beautiful views of the surrounding area. Your team will also have time to go to a beach and play in the Pacific Ocean. Souvenirs available for purchase to help you remember your summer include hammocks, woven bags, machetes, jewelry and knives. Following your summer of service, you return to Florida for Debrief.
