Mission Statement:
The Ministry was born out of a vision given by God to the Primate, Archbishop Dr. Elijah Akpan Mboho in May 1975. The inaugural meeting was held on the 31st of December 1975 at No. 133 Aka Road, Uyo, under the name Goodnews Evangelical/Correspondence Crusade Team. There were fourteen founding members in attendance. At this meeting, late Elder Ime Udokang Ibekwe was elected as President, Sister Alice Edoho as Secretary, and the visionary person then addressed as Evangelist Elijah A. Mboho was elected General Director. Brother Offiong Ibok served as his personal assistant, while Brother Ekpenyong Ekpenyong contributed the first logo which has undergone modifications to what it is today.
Motto: The motto of the organization is "That All May Know Him".
In following God's leading towards spotting the divine location for the establishment of the young ministry, the General Director moved the Team to a rented 3-bedroom apartment at No.53 Ikot Okoro Road, Abak where he lived and operated the ministry for two years.
As the Lord added workers and members to the work, there was need for more space and the next move was to No.55 Ikot Okoro Road still in Abak. This apartment served as housing for the General Director, his family, ministry workers and the venue for activities for eight years.
With more increase in the number of members and activities, and the departure of the then President, late Elder Ime U. Ibekwe to the United Kingdom for further studies, it became necessary to effect changes in the organization's structure

GOODNEWS COMMUNITY INTERNATIONAL
Goodnews Community International (GCI) is an interdenominational Christian organization established for service, for the whole man.
Doctrinal Statement:
1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God.
2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit.
3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ; in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death; in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the father, and in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory to rule for one thousand year.
4. We believe in the blessed hope, which is the rapture of the church at the coming of Jesus Christ which will take place before the Great Tribulation.
5. We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the word of God and the blood of Jesus Christ.
6. We believe that the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayers.
7. We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation and that water baptism by immersion should follow after regeneration.
8. We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4 is meant for all believers.
9. We believe that the church of Jesus Christ is made up of all born again believers washed by the blood of Jesus Christ and sanctified by the word of God, and individual believers as blocks in the church which shall be ruptured to meet the lord in the air.
10. We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life.
11. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and lost; the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation in hell, a place of eternal punishment and consciousness.
12. We believe in the act of evangelization as the duty of the church; the believers evangelizing the world by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ everywhere.
13. We believe in Christian rebuke, correction, admonition, exhortation, and discipline.
14. We believe in a born again Christian marrying only a born again Christian and forbid re-marriage (no matter the circumstance) while the original spouse is still alive.

God in His faithfulness and sovereignty has prospered His work in the hands of Archbishop Dr. Elijah A. Mboho.
By reason of growth and expansion it became necessary to restructure the organization, so the Ministry took on a new name Goodnews Community International, in 1994. The former name Goodnews Evangelical Team was subsumed as one of the organs. In order to also meet the challenges of effective administration and management posed by growth and expansion, it became necessary to create organs through which the day to day affairs of the Ministry would be run. Today the governing body of GCI is called Council 24.
